Technician working at height on a wind turbine
From 2027

Rope access and wind turbine maintenance

The services Sreabh Aeir will offer from 2027, and the training behind each one.

Main focus

Rope access

Vertical access to blades and towers for repair and visual inspection work, without cranes or heavy ground setups.

  • Access for blade repair and inspection tasks
  • Equipment inspection and records, built on two years managing height safety systems
  • My own rope access kit is registered and tracked on Petzl ePPE
  • Working to IRATA standards once certified

I'm not IRATA certified yet. Until I progress through the IRATA levels, rope access jobs will be carried out alongside a qualified IRATA supervisor.

IRATA Level 1 booked, 17 to 22 November 2026

  • Laminate layer stacking and glass fibre lay-ups
  • Sandwich panel structural core replacement
  • Vacuum bagging with heat blanket cure
  • Lightning protection continuity testing

Leading-edge protection and coatings

Protecting blades and steelwork from erosion and corrosion, with a clean, measured finish.

  • Leading-edge protection (LEP) system application
  • Gelcoat and topcoat finishing, with coating thickness checks
  • Surface preparation, sandblasting and power washing
  • Industrial painting and corrosion sealing

Drone surveys

Close visual surveys of blades, towers and structures, to plan repairs without putting anyone at height for a first look.

  • Photographic records of blade and tower condition
  • Survey images to support repair planning
  • Flown within the EASA Open category (A1/A3)

This is a visual survey service. It isn't non-destructive testing.

Honest status

Not offered yet

I'm training towards these, but I don't hold the qualifications yet, so I'm not offering them. Dashed cards are goals.

Non-destructive testing (NDT)

Longer-term goal

PCN Level 2 qualifications in visual, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant and ultrasonic testing of composites.

Coating inspection

Planned, 2027 to 2028

AMPP Coating Inspector Level 1 and Level 2, to inspect and sign off coating work as well as carry it out.

Approach

How I work

The same principles on every job, whatever the size.

Safety first

GWO safety training, Remote Emergency First Response Level 3 and fatigue management, so nobody takes a risk they don't need to.

Measured finishes

Coating thickness checks and lightning protection continuity testing are part of the job, not an extra.

Clear records

Equipment registers and inspection tracking on the Petzl ePPE platform, kept up to date.
