Industry news and insights

What I'm following in wind energy, blade repair and rope access safety, from a technician building a career in the sector.

These are my own views as I start out in wind energy. They're general commentary, not engineering advice or a statement of any company's position.

Rope access & safety

Rope access, safety standards and inspection methods

I follow changes to safety standards, equipment updates and the growing use of drones for surveys, along with how IRATA and GWO standards shape the work.

My view: drones are excellent for getting a first look and a photographic record quickly. Hands-on inspection and skilled workmanship are still what a critical repair depends on.

Blade repair & materials

Blade repair, materials and leading-edge erosion

I keep an eye on developments in composite materials, curing equipment and repair methods, and especially on how the industry deals with leading-edge erosion.

My view: a good leading-edge protection system and a clean, well-measured repair help a blade keep its shape and performance. Careful inspection before and after the work is what makes it last.

Offshore wind: what's being built, and who keeps it running

I follow offshore wind farm installations, maintenance contracts and project scopes across Ireland, the UK and wider Europe, to understand where skilled technicians will be needed.

My view: as more wind farms are built around our coasts, keeping blades and structures in good condition becomes as important as building them. Maintenance is where careful, reliable work pays off over a project's life.
